Case Study Examples

Ages/Risser stated are at onset of brace treatment.

JH* – 14 year old girl with 54 degree thoracic curve treated with LA BraceTM and Schroth Method. Pt has been wore her brace full time for 2 years and currently wears her brace part-time. At its peak, her in-brace x-ray shows curve held at 21 degrees. Latest out of brace x-ray (24 hours) show curve of 43 degrees and

LN* – 15 year old girl, Risser 3 with 50 degree thoracic curve treated with LA BraceTM and Schroth Method. Pt wore her brace full-time for 1 year and has continued to wear her brace 12-16 hrs/day for additional 2.5 years. Latest out of brace x-ray (24 hours) show a curve of 40 degrees.

JL* – 16 year old boy, Risser 3 with 58 degree curve treated with LA BraceTM and Schroth Method. Pt wore his brace full-time for 1 year and has been wearing his brace 8-16 hrs/day for the last 2.5 years. Most recent out of brace x-ray (24 hours) show a curve of 50 degrees
No x-ray pic available.

OO- 13 year old girl with double major curve pattern was wearing a Boston Brace. In-brace correction was only 15% and main lumbar curve in-brace at 45 degree. Pt found the Boston brace bulky and compliance was poor. Patient was switched to an LA BraceTM which she has been wearing for 6 months. Patient is now fully compliant and in-brace curve is at 34 degrees.
No x-ray pic available.

JM – 13 year old girl with 30 degree thoracic curve treated with The LA BraceTM and Schroth Method. Pt wore her brace full time for 15 months. Her last in-brace x-ray showed a curve of 10 degrees. Her curve, now 3 months post bracing, is at 22 degrees.

JG – 4 year old boy with 45 degree lumbar curve. Pt has been wearing his LA braceTM full time for 3 years. Latest in-brace x-ray show curve stable at 18 degrees.
No x-ray pic available.

SJ – 12 year old girl with King 1 double major curve pattern, 36T/43L. Has now been wearing her brace for 18 months. Still wearing her brace but curves now reduced in-brace to 20T/19L with good prognosis for avoiding surgery.

TL – 12 year old girl with King 3 thoracic curve pattern, 36T. Has now been wearing her brace for 11 months. Still wearing her brace but curves 24 hrs out of brace now reduced by 50% to 19 degrees.

* Note – we do not normally recommend or suggest The LA Brace for curves over 45 degrees. The 3 cases mentioned here with curves of 50+ degrees we advised against bracing but were pressed to try The LA Brace by the patients/families. The preliminary results stated here are encouraging but the final outcomes of bracing are not normally considered until at least 2 years post discharge from brace treatment.
