Scoliosis presents in many unique ways. It can be said that every curve is somewhat unique. However for treatment purposes it is helpful to group scoliosis curves together to provide easier analysis of treatment needs and greater consistency in results. There are several classification systems for scoliosis. However there are 2 distinct issues with current classification systems:
- Most were developed for surgical needs and were built for curves of a large size and dont always apply for smaller curves as seen in brace treatment.
- Most system over-simplify scoliosis and presents as a limited number of patterns.
We identified that there are multiple patterns that have differing biomechanical needs. The resulting LA Brace classification is therefore the first true and complete biomechanical classification.
